Refund if your court or officer doesn't accept it. How the refund works

  • Court-accepted in most jurisdictions
  • Educational course, not therapy
  • Acceptance is decided by your court or officer — check with them first.

Right class? Start here

The 8-hour class is the full core of our impulse control course. You learn why the brain grabs the reward that's right in front of you, what weakens your brakes, how to sit out an urge, which thoughts talk you into bad choices, and how to make a decision you won't regret in 10 months.

What you get for $49

  • Enrollment letter (PDF) the minute you pay. Send it to your officer today, not after you finish.
  • 8 one-hour lessons, each with a short animated video explainer (with captions), illustrations, exercises and a quiz. Plain-English text that works on your phone or a computer.
  • 2–3 short exercises and a private journal prompt in every lesson. Your officer never sees what you write.
  • An honest timer. It counts active time only and logs every session on our server. Read fast? You get extra practice, not a clock to stare at.
  • A final test you can retake as many times as you need. It opens once your 8 hours are logged.
  • Certificate of completion (PDF) with your name, "Impulse Control & Decision Making — 8 hours," dates, test score, a certificate ID and a QR code.
  • A public check page. Your officer enters the ID and your last name and sees the same hours and dates.
  • Progress report (PDF) you can download any time and send to your officer.

What 8 hours covers

  1. Understanding Impulsivity: Acting Before Thinking — Impulse, action, consequence: how a 5-second choice (a purchase, a punch, a text, taking something) turns into months of fallout.
  2. Your Brain on Impulse: Urges, Rewards, and the Brakes — The brain's gas pedal and brake, why "now" beats "later", and the four things that weaken your brakes: stress, short sleep, alcohol and hunger.
  3. Triggers, Urges, and Urge Surfing — Spot the triggers behind your urges and ride an urge out — most peak and fade within 20 to 30 minutes.
  4. Hit Pause: Calming Your Body Before You Act — An urge meter from 1 to 10, a 10-minute pause, and breathing that slows your body down.
  5. Thinking Traps That Lead to Impulsive Choices — "Just this once." "I deserve it." "No one will know." How to catch these thoughts and answer them.
  6. Better Decisions: STOP, Pros and Cons, and 10-10-10 — Three decision tools: STOP, a short-term vs long-term pros and cons table, and how you will feel in 10 minutes, 10 months and 10 years.
  7. Delayed Gratification and Setting Goals — Trading a small reward now for a bigger one later, and turning one goal into small, checkable steps.
  8. Taking Responsibility and Building Your Impulse Control Plan — Your urge triggers, your pause, your decision tools and your support people, written into one plan you keep.

Every lesson ends with a 5-question quiz (pass with 80%, retake as often as you like). The final test is 25 questions; you pass with 75% (19 correct).

What 8 hours adds to the 4-hour class

We never ask for your case number

Courts often want your case number, court name or date of birth on the certificate. You type those into your own copy of the PDF, in your browser. They are never sent to us and never stored. We don't ask what happened, and we don't want to know.

If your court says no, you get your money back

If your court, judge or probation officer doesn't accept your 8-hour certificate, we refund 100% of the course fee. Email us the written rejection and the official's contact details within 60 days of finishing. The class must match the course type and hours in your order.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the 8-hour class actually take?

8 hours of logged learning time — the timer counts only the time you are actively reading, watching or listening to the lesson video, or doing exercises. Do it in one sitting or spread it over several days. You can stop after any screen and pick up where you left off.

Can I finish the 8-hour class in one day?

Yes, if you put in 8 hours of active study that day. The timer pauses when you're inactive for a few minutes, so leaving the tab open doesn't count.

When do I get my enrollment letter?

The minute your payment goes through. It's a PDF in your email and your dashboard, ready to send to your officer.

Will my court accept this class?

Our classes are court-accepted in most jurisdictions, but the decision belongs to your court or officer. Ask them before you buy. If they don't accept your certificate, you get a full refund.

Is this an anger management class with a different name?

No. About half the lessons share skills with our anger class (pausing, breathing, challenging thoughts), but four lessons are written only for this course — the brain's reward system, urge surfing, decision tools, and goal setting — and every example is about impulses: buying, taking, texting, fighting, using.

Is this therapy?

No. It's an educational course that teaches skills. It's not therapy, counseling or a clinical evaluation. If you are in crisis, call or text 988.
