Who a 24-hour class is for

Most anger management orders ask for 4, 8, 12 or 16 hours. A 24-hour order is less common. It usually shows up when a judge, probation officer, employer or licensing board wants more than a short class, but not a year-long program.

A 24-hour class may fit you if:

  • Your paperwork says "24 hours" of anger management, or "24 hours of anger management education."
  • Your officer wants more hours than you have already done, and 24 is the number they gave you.
  • You want a deeper course on your own, past the basics of a short class.

If your paperwork says weeks instead of hours, ask your officer how many hours they need. Weeks and hours are not the same thing.

What the 24 lessons cover

The course is 24 lessons. Each lesson is about one hour of reading, listening and short exercises, with a quiz at the end.

  1. Understanding Anger: What It Is and What It Costs
  2. Know Your Triggers and Warning Signs
  3. Cool Down: The Anger Meter, Timeouts, and Relaxation
  4. Hot Thoughts, Cool Thoughts: Changing the Way You Think
  5. Say It Right: Assertive Communication
  6. Solving Conflicts Without Fighting
  7. Stress, Sleep, Substances, and Anger
  8. Taking Responsibility and Building Your Anger Control Plan
  9. Anger at Home: Partners, Family, and Parenting
  10. Anger at Work and in Public
  11. Road Rage and Online Conflict
  12. Empathy and Emotional Intelligence
  13. Resentment, Forgiveness, and Letting Go
  14. Shame, Guilt, and Your Past
  15. Mindfulness and Daily Self-Care
  16. Values, Goals, and Staying on Track
  17. Jealousy, Trust, and Relationships
  18. How the Past Shapes Your Reactions
  19. Alcohol, Drugs, and Anger
  20. Money Stress and Anger
  21. Repairing Harm: Apologies, Amends, and Rebuilding Trust
  22. Parenting Without Yelling: Calm Discipline for Kids and Teens
  23. Respect, Disrespect, and Pride
  24. Putting It All Together: Your Long-Term Anger Control Plan

Lessons 1 to 16 are the same lessons as our 16-hour class. They teach the core skills: spotting your warning signs, cooling down, changing angry thoughts, and speaking up without a fight.

Lessons 17 to 24 go further. They deal with the things that keep anger coming back: jealousy, old hurts, alcohol and drugs, money stress, and pride. They also cover how to repair harm after an outburst and how to parent without yelling. The last lesson pulls everything into one long-term plan you can keep using after the course.

How the 24 hours are counted

A certificate is only useful if your officer can trust the hours on it. So the course counts time the honest way:

  • A timed study log. The timer counts active time only, like reading, listening and doing exercises. It stops when you walk away. Your hours are saved on our server, not on your phone. How the timer works →
  • A quiz after each lesson to check that you understood it.
  • A final test that opens only after all 24 lessons are done and the hours are logged.

You can stop and come back as often as you need. Your progress is saved after every step.

What you get for your court or officer

  • An enrollment letter you can send as soon as you start, so your officer knows you are working on it.
  • A progress report that shows how many hours and lessons you have done so far. You can share it before you finish.
  • A certificate of completion with a certificate ID and a QR code.
  • A public check page. Your officer can enter the certificate ID and your last name at /verify to confirm it is real. An edited PDF won't match our record.

We never ask for your case number, court or date of birth. If your court wants them on the certificate, you type them into your own copy of the PDF.

Built to fit a busy life

  • Works on your phone. You can take lessons on a phone, tablet or computer.
  • Audio narration. Every lesson can be read to you, so you can listen instead of reading.
  • Self-paced. There are no live meetings and no set class times. Do an hour at lunch, or two hours on a day off.
  • Plain English. The lessons use short words and real-life examples, not medical terms.

Before you start: check with your court or officer

Your court or officer decides whether a certificate counts, not us. Our classes are court-accepted in most jurisdictions, but a quick yes in writing is the safest way to start.

Ask three questions:

  1. "Will you accept an online, self-paced anger management class?"
  2. "Do you need exactly 24 hours, or a different number?"
  3. "Is this an anger management condition, or a domestic violence program condition?"

The last question matters. This course is not a Batterer Intervention Program (BIP) and is not a substitute for one. If your order says "domestic violence program," "batterer's program," "BIP" or "from the approved list," a general anger management class will usually not count. Read will a court accept an online class? for more.

Our page for probation officers explains how hours are logged and how to check a certificate. You can send it to your officer with your question.

Questions and answers

How long does a 24-hour anger management class take?

It takes 24 hours of active study time, in 24 one-hour lessons. Some people finish in a few weeks. Others spread it out over a few months. The timer counts only real study time, so you can't rush past the hours.

Can I take a 24-hour anger management class online?

Yes. Many courts and officers accept online classes, but some don't. Ask yours before you start, and get the answer in writing if you can.

Is the 24-hour course available now?

Not yet. The 24-hour course is still being finished. Our 4, 8, 12 and 16-hour classes are listed on the anger management page.

Is a 24-hour class the same as a domestic violence program?

No. This is a general anger management class. It is not a Batterer Intervention Program (BIP) and is not a substitute for one. If your order asks for a domestic violence or batterer's program, ask your officer which programs they accept.

How does my officer know I really did the hours?

The study log records active time on our server. Your officer can see your progress report and check your certificate at /verify with the certificate ID and your last name.

Is this therapy?

No. It's an educational course that teaches skills. It's not therapy, counseling or a clinical evaluation. If you are in crisis, call or text 988.

Need a class for court, probation or work?

Court-accepted in most jurisdictions. Educational course, not therapy. Acceptance is decided by your court or officer, so check with them first. Refund if it’s not accepted
